In the displayed collection of rocks, visitors will see the three main types of rock which make up the Earth's crust: igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic. The igneous rocks displayed include granite, syenite, diorite, gabbro, andesite, melaphyre, and trachyte. The sedimentary group is represented by mechanical sedimentaries (different types of breccia, sandstone, and conglomerate), chemical sedimentaries (dolomite, limestone, chert) and organic sedimentaries (coral, foraminifera). Metamorphic rock is represented by specimens of quartzite, shale, marble, and gneiss. The display of igneous rock features a model volcano with lava. <\/p>\n
Bosnia and Herzegovina is rich in ore resources. The distribution, volume, and location of different ore bodies are shown on a large map with special markings. Metals are the most widely distributed type of ore, and they have a significant role in local ore production. Metals include iron, manganese, copper, chrome, lead, zinc, mercury, antimony, arsenic, and aluminium. They are widely distributed in all parts of the country: the specimens come from Vare\u0161, Ljubija, Mt Radovan, Tovarnica near Jablanica, Srebrenica, the Jajce area – to name but a few sites. Notable non-metals are asbestos, barite, magnesite, gypsum, rock salt, and clay. The displayed samples of non-metals also come from all parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina: Bosansko Petrovo Selo, Arapu\u0161a, Halilovac near Bosanska Krupa, Volar near Jajce, Elezovi\u0107i near Donji Vakuf, etc. More than 100 deposits in the country have been explored for lignite, bituminous coal, and anthracite. Today, bituminous coal is produced most intensively in the Banovi\u0107i mine as well as in the central Bosnian mines of Breza, Kakanj, Zenica, and Bila.
