The ceremonial concert \u201cSevdah u vrtu\u201d held on April 19, 2026, in the beautiful setting of the Botanical Garden of the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina, symbolically marked the conclusion of a four-month project implemented with the support of the Government of the United Kingdom. This exceptional event was not only a musical spectacle, but also an opportunity to celebrate the union of nature, culture, and music, where visitors enjoyed themselves surrounded by the rich living plant collections of the Botanical Garden. Inspiring performances of sevdalinka songs by Alma Suba\u0161i\u0107 Omerovi\u0107 and Mirza Red\u017eepagi\u0107 further enriched the atmosphere, making the day full of emotion, tradition, and the beauty of the space. Once again, it was confirmed how the Botanical Garden represents a precious meeting point of natural and cultural heritage.<\/p>\n
The driving force behind this project was the desire to make the Museum even more accessible and relevant to a wider audience, offering new content, education, and a space for collective engagement. The Botanical Garden is a refuge of knowledge and beauty, where each new initiative stimulates curiosity and connects generations. Through the project, efforts were made to strengthen the long-term sustainability and resilience of the Museum, enhance capacities for the preservation and presentation of national heritage, with a special focus on the Botanical Garden and its biodiversity. Particular emphasis was placed on presenting the diversity of the plant world of Bosnia and Herzegovina, increasing community engagement, diversifying income, strengthening strategic partnerships, and developing professional expertise in the management of living plant collections and biodiversity conservation.<\/p>\n
The project resulted in numerous significant activities and tangible achievements, despite lasting only four months. We are especially pleased to highlight cooperation with domestic institutions \u2013 the National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina contributed joint programs, workshops, and exhibitions, while the University of Sarajevo enabled biology students to participate in the work of our Garden through practical training. Collaboration with the Mountain Rescue Service of Sarajevo Canton enabled us to more easily collect rare and endemic species from Bosnia and Herzegovina.<\/p>\n
An important segment of the project was the inclusion of young people \u2013 a female student from the Department of Biology at the Faculty of Science was involved in the work of the Botanical Garden, further strengthening cooperation between youth and the Museum. The Garden staff improved their skills through international courses and training: the Head of the Scientific Living Collection completed the international course Seed Conservation Techniques organized by the Millennium Seed Bank Partnership (MSBP) at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, while a gardener had the opportunity for professional training at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, Logan, in Scotland.<\/p>\n
One of the most visible results of the project is a new plot within the Garden dedicated to indigenous and naturalized varieties of fruit species from Bosnia and Herzegovina \u2013 18 different fruit varieties have been planted, and an educational information board has further enriched the experience of every visitor. Thanks to cooperation with British and international partners, including Botanic Gardens Conservation International and ENSCONET, the Museum has gained access to modern standards, training, and professional tools, further strengthening its capacities and opening new doors to the world.<\/p>\n
A large number of workshops for citizens demonstrated a strong need for such content, as all places were filled in record time. The Botanical Garden has once again proven itself as a valuable place for gathering and collective action. With each new project, the Museum becomes a stronger guardian of heritage and an open door for all generations, inviting all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina to build a better future together.<\/p>\n
