Prehistory Section

The collection comprises over 70,000 inventory units, that is, archaeological artefacts made of ceramic, flint, stone, bone, metal, and glass. It covers the Paleolithic, Neolithic, Aeneolithic, Bronze Age, and Iron Age period.  The artefacts come from all parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The new permanent exhibition Bosnia and Herzegovina in Prehistory opened on October 20th, 2021, for the first time in almost 30 years. Around 3,000 archaeological finds were selected from one of the largest and oldest prehistoric collections in this part of Europe, which, through specially emphasized thematic units, provide a chronological insight into the development and sequence of cultures of the prehistoric periods.
