Classical Antiquity Section

The collection of the Department of Classical Antiquity includes around 25,000 archaeological objects of Roman provincial culture in Bosnia and Herzegovina from the 1st to the 6th century AD. Some of the objects belong to the early history of Christianity. The rich numismatic collection sheds special light on the economic development of Bosnia and Herzegovina during the Roman Empire.

The permanent display Bosnia and Herzegovina in Classical Antiquity provides a holistic picture of the cultural and historical development in this area during the Roman administration: the era of the early Roman Empire or Principate and the era of the late Empire or Dominate.
