The Conservation Department deals with the restoration, conservation and protection of the cultural and natural heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was formed in 2016 as a separate Department of the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The primary role of the Department is to work on the protection of objects from the collections of the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Conservation and restoration is carried out using modern methods and materials, through regular control of the condition of objects in collections and depots in cooperation with curators.
The conservation department cooperates with other museums and related cultural institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina, providing the services of its laboratories in the protection and preservation of cultural heritage. Conservators also participate in the preparation and realization of museum, temporary and permanent exhibition installations.
In addition to conservation, the Department also works on making prints and replicas of various objects from the collections of the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
