Cave Fauna

This permanent exhibition in the Natural Sciences Pavilion provides insight into the fauna of the cave, a habitat type with specific ecological conditions, including increased humidity, darkness, and minimal seasonal temperature variations.

Birds of Bosnia and Herzegovina

During the 19th and 20th centuries, 326 species from the class Aves (birds) were identified and recorded as being present in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Of that number, 226 species were recorded as nesting, while the rest were recorded as passing through or wintering.

Mammals

Of around 4,500 species of mammals, 200 of them have been recorded in Europe. This permanent exhibition in the Natural Sciences Pavilion shows the abundance and diversity of this segment of fauna in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Rocks and ores

In the displayed collection of rocks, visitors will see the three main types of rock which make up the Earth's crust: igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic. The igneous rocks displayed include granite, syenite, diorite, gabbro, andesite, melaphyre, and trachyte.

On permanent display in the Natural Sciences building, this exhibition is conceptualised on the principles of phytocoenology – the study of plant communities. It aims to show the number, variety, and complexity of forest communities on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Zoogeography

This exhibition stands out in that it does not show species of animals found in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but species from other continents. Many of these species are considered exotic.

Invertebrates

The animal kingdom is divided into two groups based on whether or not a species has a spine: invertebrates do not have a spine and vertebrates do. Invertebrates (Invertebrata) make up about 95 percent of all species discovered until now.

Botanic Garden

The Botanic Garden was started in 1912–13 under the supervision of the famous botanist Karl Malý (1874–1951). It has changed its appearance over time, but the main concept behind it, aside from minor alterations, is essentially unchanged.
