Conference announcement: Bosnian Oral Tradition in World Culture: 250 Years of Hasanaginica Ballad

It is our honour to announce that the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina, associate member of the University of Sarajevo, will be hosting an international conference: „Bosnian Oral Tradition in World Culture: 250 Years of Hasanaginica Ballad “on October 28, 2024. The conference is being organized with International Forum Bosnia, the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Tuzla, The Institute of Musicology of the Academy of Music (University of Sarajevo), The Bosnian Cultural centre in Tuzla, Faculty of Philosophy (University of Zenica), Faculty of Pedagogy (University of Bihać) and the Museum of Herzegovina. The conference will consist of two panels: (1) On 250 years of Hasanaginica in World culture; and (2) Bosnian perspectives on the ballad Hasanaginica.

Since its first appearing in 1774, the Ballad has become an integral part of world cultural heritage: it has been read, interpreted, and used in diverse ways, including translations, adaptations for dramatic, ballet, or operatic performances, and as part of the self-presentation of the people it originally belongs to. No other literary work in our language has established a comparable presence around the world or reflection in so many other cultures.

The conference will be held with the support of the Ministry of Science, Higher Education and Youth of Sarajevo Canton.
