The death cap is a deadly poisonous mushroom from the Amanita family (Amanitaceae).
It grows from summer to autumn in all types of forests. Its main characteristics include a light green to brownish-green cap, a white stalk, and white gills. It has a white ring (vellum partialle) at the top of the stalk, and a massive white volva (vellum universalle) at the bottom. The flesh is white, juicy, and odorless.
Sometimes, if it has been a particularly rainy year, this mushroom appears on a massive scale.
Availability
The death cap can be seen in the Macrofungi exhibition in the Natural Sciences Pavilion.
