The exhibition “Stećci of the medieval parish of Vidogošća” opened
Today in the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina, an exhibition was officially opened and a presentation of the project “Stećci of the medieval parish of Vidogošća” (Phase 1, stećci of Ilijaš) was held. According to the project manager, Assoc. Dr. Edin Bujak, the main goal is to determine the condition of stećaks in the area of Vidogošće parish (in phase 1 in the area of Ilijaša), to present the rich medieval heritage to the public and to create conditions for their further study and affirmation for scientific, educational and touristic purposes.
The implementation of the project opened up opportunities to create assumptions for the development and enrichment of the tourist offer of the Sarajevo Canton, which is in line with the Canton’s development strategy.
In the first phase, the project included a detailed survey of a large part of the Municipality of Ilijaš, and the state of registered necropolises with stećci was recorded. For the first time, the stećci were described in detail, precise and georeferenced plans of the necropolis were made, based on which assumptions will be created for the inclusion of stećci in the spatial plan of the Municipality. Also, for the first time, the most important stećci were photogrammetrically recorded in order to preserve their original shape, size, position and details such as decorations and inscriptions on them from this moment on. This gave the opportunity to create 3D models from the same recordings. Finally, the most important monuments were printed in 3D format and, together with photographs, were presented at the exhibition as one of the aspects of promotion and evaluation of the project itself.
The project “Stećci of the Medieval Parish of Vidogošća – Phase 1 (Stećci of Ilijaš)” was implemented by the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina under the leadership of the University of Sarajevo – Faculty of Philosophy, and was financed from project funds of the Ministry of Science, Higher Education and Youth of the Sarajevo Canton.
