Hoofed animals and ungulates of the world
Among the vertebrates, no group of animals is so seemingly diverse and at the same time closely related as the ungulates. Their five orders – manatees (Sirenia), damans (Hyracoidea), elephants (Proboscidae), one-toed ungulates (Perissodactyla) and two-toed ungulates (Artiodactyla) – are found in all types of habitats, and their diversity is a reflection of wide adaptation to different conditions of existence.
The exhibition consists of two parts. The general part introduces us to the main characteristics of the entire group and its historical development, which goes back to the beginning of the Tertiary period (65-60 million years), while the rest of the exhibition contains exhibits of individual species – fully prepared animals, skeletons or individual body parts.
