The Minerals

The Minerals exhibition consists of two main parts.

The Minerals of Bosnia and Herzegovina collection contains about 700 specimens of various minerals that are classified into groups based on their chemical composition and structure (elements, sulfides, oxides, hydroxides and carbonates, etc.). The distribution of individual mineral species is shown by a greater number of specimens of the same mineral species from different sites. Exhibits were found all over Bosnia and Herzegovina: pyrite from Bakovići, copper and mercury ores from Sinjakovi and Mračaj, barite from Maglaj, hyalophane from Busovača, wolframite in quartz from Čemernica, calcite from Duboštica – these are just some examples that show the wealth of minerals and ores in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The general collection of minerals contains about 1,000 selected specimens of minerals from various parts of the world. Like minerals from the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina, these specimens are divided into groups based on their chemical composition and structure (elements, sulfides, etc.). This exhibition is particularly notable for its numerous specimens of various minerals, perfectly developed crystal forms in beautiful colors, originating from a number of the world’s most famous deposits. There are also exhibitions of precious and semi-precious stones, and meteorites.
