Geology Section

Geology Section comprises the following systematic collections:

Mineralogy: the collection Minerals of Bosnia and Herzegovina contains approximately 2,500 samples, while the general mineral collection has about 2,200 samples. The meteorites collection contains 66 specimens. 

Petrography: the collection Rocks and Ores of Bosnia and Herzegovina contains approximately 1,300 specimens, and the general collection contains about 700.

Palaeontology: The collection Fossils of Bosnia and Herzegovina contains approximately 18,000 specimens, and the general collection of fossils contains 14,000 specimens (Mollusca, Echinodermata, Brachiopoda, plants, vertebrates, etc.).

Hematite

The name hematite is derived from the Greek word haima, which means blood, and refers to the red colour of this mineral. Hematite is used as a raw material in the synthesis of various ferrites (used as magnets).
