European Day of Jewish Culture
Today at the Botanical Garden of the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina a small ceremony was held to commemorate the European Day of Jewish Culture. One of the valuable cultural heritage of Jews in Bosnia and Herzegovina is the Sarajevo haggadah which is safeguarded at the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina since 1894.
During the program the director of the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina Mirsad Sijarić, the president of the Hagada Association Eli Tauber, Mr. Siniša Šešum, the Head of the UNESCO office in BiH, and the Minister Edita Đapo from the Ministry of Environment and Tourism of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina spoke about Jewish heritage in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In order to promote the Sarajevo haggadah both locally and abroad, the attendees once again emphasized the importance and value of this exhibit for the Jewish people in Bosnia and Herzegovina and wider as well as for the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In November 2017 the Sarajevo haggadah was registered in the UNESCO Memory of the World Register.
