Etruscan-Italic helmet
Section:
- Archaeology›Prehistory
This helmet was found at Vrankamen near Bosanska Krupa, in the vicinity of the site of discovery of the famous cache of African money and ingots (semi-manufactured products).
The helmet is very simple, with a smooth surface, decorated only at the very bottom with narrow ribbing and a frieze of four rows of small solid circles. At the top there is a pine-cone finial. Because it is missing the paragnatidae – the cheek pieces, the helmet was initially classified as an Early La Tène Montefortino; however, later research has shown that that it belongs to a different type, which dates from the Late La Tène period.
As no analogous specimens have been found on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina, it is presumed that this one was imported or left behind by a foreign soldier.
