Today in History: A Call for the Establishment of a Museum Society Published
On 21st of September 1884, Dr. Julije Makanec, a doctor from Zagreb and a councillor in Sarajevo, published a call for the establishment of a museum society in the magazine Bosnische Post, no. 75. The call came to a very favourable echo, and shortly thereafter, on October the 5th 1884, a constitutive session was held at the Sarajevo City Assembly, to elect the Committee entrusted to draft the Statute of the Museum Society, organize initial work and take care of the placement of donated items. The Society has been specifically placed to carry out all the preparations for the initiation of the museum, thus creating the foundations for the establishment of the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina, whose grand 130th jubilee is celebrated this year.
