Mat

The mat is made of home-made wool on vertical or horizontal weaving loom, using techniques of finger interlacing andpre-weaving. These techniques were used by Bosnian and Herzegovinian women in handiwork,home or in workshop activity.

This woman’s headpiece is made up of several parts. Each part was made by a different artisan, and they were finally put together by a milliner specialising in fezzes and women’s headwear.

This is a silver box made using the filigree technique – a very delicate and demanding method of working silver or gold wire into different shapes. The art of filigree was practised by master goldsmiths and silversmiths specialised in filigree work.

The yatagan (curved dagger) was not only a weapon carried by men every time they left the house, but also a status symbol that testified to its owner's maturity, virility, and wealth.
