Birds of Bosnia and Herzegovina

During the 19th and 20th centuries, 326 species from the class Aves (birds) were identified and recorded as being present in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Of that number, 226 species were recorded as nesting, while the rest were recorded as passing through or wintering. Unfortunately, according to data from the end of the 20th century, 16 species from the list of birds nesting in Bosnia and Herzegovina were marked as extinct due to various negative impacts. This systematic inventory is part of the Natural Sciences Department’s scientific collection, Birds of the Balkan Peninsula, the largest collection of its kind in the region.
