Butmir culture bowl
Section:
- Archaeology›Prehistory
The use of ceramic is the most pronounced characteristic of the Butmir culture.
During its classical phase, the high artistic value of the ceramic bowls is revealed in a wide variety of shapes and the characteristic manner in which they were decorated. Geometric, spiral, and ribbon patterns (triangles, rhombuses, checkerboards, etc.) are executed by carving, perforating, depressing, cutting out, and sculpting, with the use of white or red incrustation to emphasise the primary motif and achieve a colourful effect.
