Fauna of Mountain Streams and Rivers
On permanent display in the Natural Sciences Pavilion, this exhibition provides insight into the fauna peculiar to the streams and rivers of the mountains of Bosnia and Herzegovina as a specific ecosystem. Certain species of birds stand out as important indicators of an ecosystem free from pollution: the river kingfisher (Alcedo atthis), the grey wagtail (Motacilla cinerea) and the European dipper (Cinclus cinclus). The exhibition includes other interesting species of mammals, fish, and amphibians, such as the red squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris), the brown trout (Salmo trutta fario), and the fire salamander (Salamandra salamandra).
